At The Grange Primary School, we are committed to providing a high-quality Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) curriculum that prepares our children for life in modern Britain and reflects the updated statutory RSHE guidance being introduced from September 2026. Our curriculum is designed to help every child develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values they need to become happy, healthy, safe and responsible members of society.
Our RSHE curriculum is built around the core themes of relationships education, health and wellbeing education and personal development and safety. Using the Kapow Primary RSHE scheme as the foundation for our learning, we provide a carefully sequenced programme that revisits key concepts over time, enabling children to deepen their understanding as they grow and mature.
Additionally at the heart of our approach are our school values:
These values are woven throughout every aspect of RSHE and help children to develop positive relationships, make informed decisions, show empathy towards others and become active, respectful members of their communities.
We recognise that emotional wellbeing is fundamental to learning and personal development. To support this, we use The Colour Monster in the Early Years and Key Stage One to help children identify, understand and talk about their feelings. As pupils progress through the school, they continue to develop their emotional literacy, self-awareness and self-regulation skills through age-appropriate learning experiences that encourage reflection, resilience and positive mental health.
Our curriculum provides a safe and supportive environment where children are encouraged to ask questions, explore ideas and discuss real-life scenarios with confidence and respect. Through engaging lessons, children learn how to build healthy relationships, keep themselves safe both online and offline, understand and manage emotions, celebrate differences, and develop a strong sense of personal responsibility.
We believe that RSHE is most effective when schools and families work together. By fostering open communication, mutual respect and shared values, we aim to equip our pupils with the confidence, knowledge and character needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.
Ultimately, our RSHE curriculum supports children to become confident, caring and well-rounded individuals who embody The Grange’s values and are ready to make a positive contribution to their communities both now and in the future.
