Class teachers and TAs: We are supported by Mrs Davies, Mrs Rogers, Mrs Phillips and Mrs Bolton. A bit about the class: In Frog class, we recognise that children learn best through play and fun, hands-on activities. Our days are scheduled so that each learning session is followed by a chance for the children to apply their learning in different child-led ways.
Each morning in Frog begins with a calm and purposeful start. Children take part in ‘Busy Fingers’ – a carousel of engaging activities designed to develop their fine motor skills and strengthen the muscles needed for writing. This is followed by daily phonics sessions taught through the Read Write Inc programme, helping children to build confidence in early reading and writing. Writing opportunities are then carefully planned around a shared high-quality text, allowing children to explore stories together and begin to apply their phonics skills in meaningful and creative ways.
Maths is taught through the Cando Maths programme, where children develop their early number confidence and problem-solving skills. This learning is then reinforced through continuous provision, giving children regular opportunities to practise and apply their mathematical understanding independently through play-based activities across the classroom.
In the afternoons, children have time to explore the outdoor environment and access a range of continuous provision opportunities. These experiences allow them to revisit, practise and embed their learning across all areas of the EYFS curriculum, supporting their development through play, exploration and hands-on discovery.
Children are given frequent opportunities to learn through their own interests and ideas, using a wide range of child-initiated activities. The provision includes role-play areas, small world resources, vehicles, sand and water play, as well as indoor and outdoor spaces for maths and early writing. Fine motor skills are developed through activities such as threading, sewing, playdough and construction. Throughout the day, children are encouraged to enjoy books independently and together, and they are able to take reading books home to share with their families.
Throughout the week, the children take part in assemblies that help to promote our school values of honesty, kindness, curiosity, respect and always trying our best. We also learn about British Values and how to be respectful, responsible members of our community. Throughout the year, visitors come into school to lead special sessions, sharing valuable experiences, knowledge and important messages with the children.
At Grange Primary School, we are very proud of the strong links we have within our local community. Throughout the school year, the children take part in a range of opportunities that help them to learn about our school values and the importance of being positive, respectful members of society.
We work closely with our local police team and enjoy regular visits from Reverend Lisa Knight, who leads assemblies and supports the children’s understanding of community and belonging. Our school choir also enjoys performing within the local community, including visits to care homes and performances for shoppers during special events.
During Careers Week, a variety of visitors come into school to lead engaging practical sessions, inspiring the children and helping them to learn about different careers and future opportunities.
